The area around Pico is full of life, and our Franco, who is mycology, nature photographer, hiker, a great connoisseur of the Natural Park of Aurunci mountains and National Park of Abruzzo, an expert on nature, botanical and mycological walks, and he will suggest places and paths of fascinating beauty.

Flora. The Park territory includes a great variety of environments, each characterized by a particular vegetation. Beech tree woodlands cover the summit of Mt. Faggeto and the northern slopes of Mt. Putrella or Fossa del Lago, where you can admire one of the most imposing beech tree specimens of the Park. The undergrowth is characterized by the holly and the daphne of the beech tree woodland. Valle Gaetana plateau is dominated by Turkey oaks and big-size apple and pear trees. Chestnut trees welcome visitors at the beginning of Campo di Venza, while Downy oak forests, with their undergrowth enriched by the endemic wild privet, surround Sant'Onofrio plateau and Valle Vona plateau. The flora of the Park of Monti Aurunci is enriched with over 50 species of orchids, including the showy orchid Major Serapis heart-shaped, the naked man and the Dancer.

Wildlife and Bird Watching. The varied landscape of the Parco dei Monti Aurunci provides the ideal environment for different animal species. The park is a crossroads of major routes and is a spring migratory stopover for many migratory birds such as orioles, cuckoos and swallows. Among the nocturnal birds are the nightingale and nightjar, but also birds of prey as the owl, the owl and the barn owl, the scops owl and tawny owl.
